Two days ago we made history. It was a beautiful sight running out at 11:o2 pm onto Broad Street to see Black kids, White kids, Latino kids, everybody together to celebrate the election of Barack Obama. As I've come down from the high, reality has set in. People, now is the most crucial time in American history. We cannot let this monumental moment be the end of the struggle. Having a Black President is a gift and a curse and only time will tell whether we will truly be better off. I am not pessimistic but a realist and already I've seen friendships crumble due to peoples beliefs. Listening to my friends talk about how much things will change makes me think...do we really understand what that change will be? I've heard many folks claim now that Barry is President Elect that racism is finally over. Uh....I don't think so, just because one Black man has been elevated to this most prominent status in America does not mean that injustice doesn't still exist. Systematic and Institutional Racism is alive and well, and I honestly feel that it may even get worse now that Barry is in the White House.
